the short version
no trackers. no ad pixels, no analytics company, no advertising network, no fingerprinting. this site sets no cookies of its own. most of what it remembers about you never leaves your own browser.
three things here are public on purpose - the guestbook, the shared sky, and whoever else is walking the presence garden while you are. everything else is below.
what stays in your browser
these live in your own device's storage. they are never sent anywhere, and the studio cannot read them. clearing your browser data erases every one of them for good.
- the lamp.
mv-mode- whether you left the lights on day or night. - what you saved.
mvd_loved- the cards you tapped the heart on. a private list. no counts, no one sees it, not even her. - your mark.
mv_guest- the name you signed the guestbook with, and when, so the page can say welcome back. - the toys. one small key for each of the play rooms - the pond, the plant, the walker, the balloon, the duck, everbloom, the daily line and the rest. each holds your progress in that one toy: a streak, a score, the plant you kept alive.
- what you saw.
mv_sightings- the date a fox or an owl or a moon moth first crossed a page while you were on it. the field guide reads it back to you. - your constellation. the stars you placed in the shared sky, kept locally as well, so yours is still yours when you come back.
- one footstep per visit.
fs_/page- held only as long as the tab is open, so a visit is counted once instead of on every reload. - signing in. if you make an account, your session token sits here (
sb-…-auth-token) so you stay signed in. signing out removes it.
what other people can see
three things, and only three. write them the way you'd want a stranger to read them, because a stranger will.
- the guestbook. your line, and the name you choose - or no name at all - is visible to everyone who opens the page. up to 240 characters. no login, nothing else attached, and it stays until she takes it down.
- the shared sky. the constellation you draw and the name you give it are visible to everyone, and they arrive live on other people's screens the moment you place them.
- the presence garden. while you have it open, one position on the screen is shared live with whoever else has it open. it is never stored. close the tab and it is gone.
nothing else you do here is visible to another visitor.
what the studio keeps
- footsteps. which page was opened, and when. no name, no account, no address, and nothing joining one footstep to the next. only she can read them, and only as a count.
- hearts. a number beside a world. no record of who.
- the guestbook and the sky. as above - a line, a name, a shape, a date.
that is the whole list. there is nothing else.
if you buy or make an account
your email address and what you bought are stored securely (supabase) so your worlds stay yours and sign-in works. payment happens on stripe's own pages - the studio never sees or stores a card. account emails come from noreply@madevisible.design. buying something does not put you on a mailing list. the letters live on substack, and only if you go there and subscribe yourself.
the camera, once, and only if you open it
one of the play rooms, mirror blooms, asks for your camera - and only after you press the button. the picture is used inside your browser to see where you're moving, so that flowers grow there. it is never recorded, never uploaded, never sent anywhere. close the tab and it's gone. if you'd rather not, the same room has a version that follows your hand instead, and every other room works without a camera. nothing here ever asks for your microphone or your location.
who else is in the room
opening a page here means your browser talks to a few other companies. each of them sees your ip address and your browser's name, the way any server does.
- vercel hosts the site.
- cloudflare serves the films, the sounds and the images.
- supabase holds the guestbook, the sky, the footsteps and the accounts.
- google fonts serves the typefaces the pages are set in.
- youtube only when you press play on a film. youtube's player may set its own cookies at that moment, and not before.
- stripe only if you go to buy something.
that is the entire list. nothing here follows you off this site.
the logs nobody reads
vercel and cloudflare keep an ordinary server log of requests - an ip address, a browser string, which file was asked for, the time. every website on earth has these; they exist to keep the site standing and to turn away attacks. they belong to the hosts rather than to the studio, they are kept briefly and then rotate away, and nobody here reads them for fun.
how long anything is kept
honestly: until she deletes it by hand. there is no automatic schedule, and it would be an invention to name one. the guestbook is meant to be a book - it keeps everyone who passed through. the sky is meant to stay lit. footsteps are a count of doors opened and nothing more. if you'd rather not be in any of it, the next paragraph is the whole process.
having something removed
write to contact@janekimyu.com and say what you'd like gone - a guestbook line, a constellation, an account and everything attached to it. roughly what it said is enough to find it. no form, no ticket number, no reason required, and a person answers.
if this changes
this page changes when the site does, and it is meant to stay true rather than stay short. last written 20 july 2026.
